Main program mention goes to Gil Scott-Heron, no surprise, given he passed on May 27 of this here year. The show opened with an alternate take of his most well known thanks to DJ Vadim. Later was some material from We’re New Here, the Jamie XX remix version of I’m New Here, both on XL Recordings.
I’m New Here is the thirteenth studio album by American recording artist Gil Scott-Heron, released February 8, 2010 on XL Recordings. His last studio album in his lifetime, it is Scott-Heron’s first release of original material in sixteen years, following a period of personal and legal troubles with drug addiction. Recording sessions for the album took place during 2007 to 2009 and production was handled by XL Recordings-owner Richard Russell… A remix of the album, titled We’re New Here, was produced by Jamie xx of The xx and released February 21, 2011, on XL Recordings.
