Oknai

When it comes to beats of the future or wonky et al variety Eastern Europe is killing it! While attention has been focused firmly on mother Russia, with compilations like Error Broadcast’s Fly Russia or Finest Ego’s Russian Beatmaker Compilation and labels like Gimme5, Jumble (Fuselab) or Ritmo Sportivo shedding light, others countries are stepping up and coming to the fore. Serbia has Svetlana Industries for example and now it seems Slovenia is one to watch. Take one of our recent discoveries rx:tx for example. Dig a little deeper and you come across standout artists like Oknai, as evidenced by his stellar track on the rx:tx’s recent 2011 Label Sampler. The best track on said release in our humble, as heard below.

His latest release, which is actually a debut of sorts I believe, is by way of an EP titled Ain’t a Dream:

This one comes from the Oknai, a representative of younger generation of Slovenian beatmakers. Oknai got his rep mostly from his chopped up Ableton live sets, often referred to as clip chop. His first EP is a record of raw, lo-fi drums, sometimes dreamy other times aggressive synths, sampled fragments from all over the place and unique arrangements all tucked someplace between glitchop, hiphop, IDM and the other…

Cop it on bandcamp and sample the sounds below.

Quality artwork adorns and there is plenty more details on the release page, including this quality video:

Slovenia… the future looks bright… enough said.
